By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence. And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of…
1) moral excellence, then
2) knowledge, then
3) temperance, then
4) patient endurance, then
5) godliness, then
6) brotherly affection, then
7) love for everyone.
The more you grow like this, the more effective and productive you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. – 2 Peter 1:3-8
Declaration/Prayer
God, bookstores are full of self-help books with dubious claims to unlock our true potential and achieve the ultimate human happiness. But Divine drubs DIY, and in this short passage a humble fisherman from 2,000 years ago prescribed the step-by-step process to partake of Your nature and be more effective and productive in knowing Jesus Christ…seven steps for the seven days of the week. Since today’s the middle of the week, let’s start with the middle of the list and work on patient endurance, and I’ll see You tomorrow to work on godliness. I’d rather rely on Your God-help than my self-help any day of the week. Amen.
